On July 9th – 10th 2019, specifically at Mulia Hotel in Jakarta, Second – year students of Bandung Institute of Technology managed to get “1st runner up” at the Go Green In the City Challenge that was held by Schneider Electric. The students were Odara Eka Aptari from Chemical Engineering 2017 and Reiner Nathaniel Jabanto from Electrical Power 2017. This competition is a global challenge that aims to innovation in 4 categories, which include Access to Energy & Sustainability, Plant of the Future, Grid of the Future, and Building of the Future. For the competition, Odara and Reiner managed to propose an idea of material alternative for solar cell, creating a solar cell that is made out of recyled PET plastic bottles called “Recycled Organic Solar Cell”. With ROSC, Odara and Reiner hope to increase the use of renewable energy, decrease price of electricity that consequently making energy and electricity more accessible and affordable to everyone in rural areas, as well as achieve SDGs number 7 and 12.
