BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – American Institute of Chemical Engineers Bandung Institute of Technology Student Chapter (AIChE ITB SC) has successfully been selected as one of 30 student chapters to receive the Outstanding Student Chapter 2019 Award by setting aside other student chapters from a total of 325 throughout world. The award award will be held at the 2019 AIChE Annual Student Conference, November 10, 2019 in Orlando, Florida, United States.
The award was won after AIChE ITB SC actively held various activities to develop the hard skills and soft skills of its members in preparing themselves to become process engineers after completing the undergraduate program.
AIChE ITB President SC Ivant Septiawarman explained, the award was the first achieved by AIChE ITB. In its activities, AIChE also routinely holds professional seminars in the field of chemical engineering by inviting practitioners and academics from the process industry. Every year AIChE ITB SC supports HIMATEK-ITB to hold a regional IChEC (Indonesia Chemical Engineering Challenge) competition which consists of plant design, problem solving, essay, video, and poster competitions. In addition, AIChE ITB SC also organizes member development activities such as FGD training, job preparation workshops, financial plan training, joint technical classes, plant visits, and community service.
“Right now we have around 280 members of ITB students with diverse majors, not only students majoring in Chemical Engineering, but also from bicrobiology, post-harvest technology, electrical power engineering,” he said. He hoped, in his management this time he could hold the Indonesia Regional Chemical Conference in 2020.
AIChE ITB SC was officially established on October 2, 2015 and is the first AICHE student chapter organization in Indonesia. The first president and founder of this organization was Nursayyidah Ainun Jahsy (Chemical Engineering 2012) with the supervisor Professor Dwiwahju Sasongko or more familiarly called Prof. Song
Explained by Prof. Song, the student chapter is a type of AIChE organization intended for students in their respective colleges and is focused on establishing good relations between the academic and industrial world and increasing student involvement in promoting the process industry nationally and internationally.
“What distinguishes it from the set is that this student chapter is internationally scaled and based in America,” said Prof. Song is also an AIChE senior member. AIChE ITB SC can be a media liaison for students who are interested in the world of processes by synergizing and collaborating to advance the process industry in the country.
