From Waste to Wealth: Empowering Rural Sustainability in Central Sulawesi

Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), in collaboration with PT Aimtopindo, has implemented a community engagement program in Cendanapura Village, Banggai, Central Sulawesi, transforming livestock waste into valuable organic fertilizers and biogas.

Led by Dr. Tri Partono Adhi from ITBโ€™s Chemical Engineering Department and supported by Ir. Setyo Yanus Sasongko, President Director of PT Aimtopindo Nuansa Kimia, this initiative exemplifies a strong synergy between academia and industry in driving sustainable rural innovation.

The program represents a shared commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) โ€” promoting sustainable agriculture that supports food security (SDG 2), introducing renewable energy sources for rural communities (SDG 7), and encouraging responsible production through waste valorization (SDG 12).

Through scientific innovation and close collaboration with local government and farmers, ITB and Aimtopindo are empowering rural communities to achieve both energy and food resilienceโ€”proving that science, when applied collaboratively, can directly improve lives and strengthen communities.
