HAKA Team! consisting of Vincent Felixius (13018100), Timothy Weslie (13018044), and Bryan (13018079) won 1st place in the Plan Design Competition IChEC 2022. This year’s plant design competition has the theme Low Carbon Industry, where the HAKA! supervised by Mr. Jenny Rizkiana, S.T, M.T, Ph.D. designing a biomethanol plant from palm oil waste as raw material. The purpose of designing a biomethanol plant is to cover Indonesia’s methanol imports and at the same time treat palm oil waste which is often a problem. This Plant Design Competition is very challenging because it involves many aspects of Chemical Engineering. However, this competition is also a valuable experience to learn and discuss with industry practitioners.
The Caretaker team consists of two people, namely Farhan Kamal (13018018) and Dion Purnama Putra (13018072). This team won the 2nd runner up in the Problem Solving IChEC 2022 competition with the theme “Optimizing Carbon Savings in Oil Refinery Process”. This year, the entire team is expected to be able to solve the problems experienced by the Company in order to increase their GHG emissions savings value. On this occasion, we present a solution in the form of implementing a Heat Integration Network in the production process at Company A which can reduce the potential use of gas fuel, so that the Company’s GHG savings value can be increased. In our research to find a suitable solution, we are guided by Pak Anggit Raksajati as our supervisor so that we can discuss and get useful feedback to formulate the most appropriate solution that we will use. In addition to getting the 2nd Runner-up position, our Paper also managed to become the best by getting the Best Paper predicate.
The Survivore team consisted of two people, namely Tito Wijayanto (13019041) and Muhammad Faisal Prawiratama (13019043). This team won 2nd place in the IChEC 2022 Essay competition with the title Essay Biodegradable Food Packaging Film from Palm Oil Waste-Modified Polylactic Acid for Decarbonization through Circular Economy Scheme. The background of this essay is that the very high amount of conventional plastic wrap makes it difficult to achieve a low carbon economy due to the very low biodegradability of conventional plastics and the very high GHG potential. On the other hand, there is a high production of CPO in Indonesia which causes high waste of ex-palm oil such as EFB and POME. The main idea highlighted in this case is to utilize Polylactic Acid as a commercial plastic material reinforced with Cellulose Nanocrystal from EFB and PHA from POME. In addition, in shaping the implementation, the Circular Economy Scheme will be applied as a form of sustainable implementation. The impression you get is extraordinary pleasure and achievement that makes you very happy. In this case, winning an international competition is a very good step to empower the low carbon economy principle.
The Gasin team consisting of Bryan Prama Ardiansyah (13018051) and Monica Berliana Triano (13018057) who was supervised by Dr. Wibawa Hendra Saputera won 2nd place (1 Runner Up) in the Problem Solving Competition organized by IChEC (Indonesia Chemical Engineering Competition) 2022. This year, the Problem Solving Competition has the theme “Optimizing Carbon Savings in Oil Refinery Process” with the given problem being the achievement of the minimum GHG (Green House Gases) emission savings requirement by the ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) is 65%, while the GHG emission savings value of Company A for producing HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) only reaches 62.9%. The Gasin team offers a technological solution in the form of “Methanol Production as The Implementation of CCUS In the HVO Production Process From RBDPO to Increase GHG Emission Savings”. The Problem Solving competition is divided into three rounds with the first round being abstract creation. study of literature to collect several solutions to answer the given problems. There are two solutions obtained, namely heat integration in the main process of the factory and producing a new value-added compound in the form of methanol. With several considerations, methanol production was chosen as the solution to the problem in Company A. Babak the second is making a full paper. In making a full paper, the Gasin team simulates the solution of the problem that has been selected using software in the form of Aspen HYSYS V11. In addition, the Gasin team also calculates the GHG emission savings resulting from producing methanol, which is 68% (already done). exceed the minimum limit of GHG e mission savings requirement by ISCC). The third or final round is the final presentation. In the final presentation, the Gasin team made the PPT first, which was followed by a presentation exercise independently and with Pak Wibawa Hendra Saputera as a mentor. Together with the supervisor, we were given input and presentation tips. This competition is very giving experience for us to develop the skills and knowledge that we are studying. In addition, this competition reminds us of issues related to climate change that need attention for every energy industry in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Gasin team would like to thank Allah SWT, our supervisor, the IChEC committee, and those who have provided support and prayers for us.
The IChEC business case competition challenges all participants to provide solutions for Sustainable Development in personal care products. Therefore, the Invicta team consisting of Priscilla Angelica, Claritta Sukmalovelina and Zulfah Amala created a solution called Wardah Shampoo Cubes. Wardah Shampoo Cubes is a concentrated shampoo with a cube shape designed to reduce the use of plastic and water. One cube is already served for one wash for hair of any length. Wardah Shampoo Cubes has the advantages of being travel friendly, easy to use and environmentally friendly.
